Obituary of BARRY H. LUSTIG

Please share a memory of BARRY to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dr. Barry Lustig, DMD, was a multi-hyphenate and a force to be reckoned with.

He was born to Blanche and Aaron Lustig on April 30th, 1954, in Newark, NJ.

His passion for math and science was fostered at Newark College of Engineering (known as NJIT), where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering on October 1, 1974. He went on to pursue his dental degree at College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. When he graduated on June 6, 1977, he was the youngest practicing dentist in the state of New Jersey at the age of twenty three years old.

A few years later, he bought his dental practice in Bound Brook, NJ, and spent a glorious forty years making all of his patients have the best and most positive dental experience ever.

When he wasn’t filling cavities, Barry prioritized living his life to the fullest. He had a range of diverse interests and initiatives. He enjoyed taking courses in advanced statistics for fun, perfecting his French, tending to the fresh herbs in his garden to add to his recipes, playing ice hockey, traveling abroad, going to NJ Devils games, going to museums and Broadway shows.

Barry’s quiet, yet limitless generosity was felt by everyone. He consistently made numerous contributions to several causes throughout his life. Notably, he donated to The American Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC, Saint Hubert’s Humane Society, Bound Brook Rescue Squad, Congregation Anshe Chesed, a charity for the development of a community in Africa for women and children to become self-sufficient. When asked, Barry happily donated to many of his patients' personal causes and fund-raising opportunities. Barry also served as past President of the Bound Brook Chapter of the Lions Club.

His departure came on May 6, 2024, at the age of 70 years old.

Barry is survived by his beloved partner of over forty years, Victoria Barboni, his sister and brother-in-law, Marsha and Larry Loeb, his niece Lauren Loeb, his niece Amanda, and her husband Elliot Weiselberg, his great nephews, Andrew, Jake, and Liam Weiselberg, as well as his cats Jewel, Digit, Dax, and Dootadoo.
