Donald Barry Bershtein passed away, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Donald was
predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Marcia, and is survived by his children, Bruce (his wife Sue),
Martin, and Karen (her husband Sean); his 7 grandchildren: Ilana, Alexander, George, Eric, Teddy, Mira
and Sara; and his brother Larry and his sister, Ina (her husband Ron).

Donald was born in 1937 in Atlantic City, NJ and raised in Drexel Hill, PA by his parents Jacob and
Anna. Donald graduated from Temple University with a BA degree in 1957, and later earned his Doctor
of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1962. He also served in the United
States Army during the years 1957 through 1964 (attaining the rank of Captain in the Army Dental
Corps). Donald started his general dental practice in North Edison in 1965 and remained an active
provider for more than 50 years. He received recognition from the Academy of General Dentistry for
achieving Fellowship status (1972), Mastership status (1981), and Emeritus status (2002). In addition, he
achieved Fellowship and Mastership in the American Endodontic Society.

Donald was a devoted member of the community, providing dental services to many of the teachers and
police officers of Edison, and was very active in the North Edison Little League and the Menlo Park
Lions Club for many years. Dr. Bershtein was one of the two original dentists on staff at JFK Hospital
when it opened in 1968. He was also a long-time active member of Temple Emanu-El in Edison, singing
in the Temple choir and also serving on its board of directors.

Donald lived a full and exemplary life and will be fondly remembered for his wit and intellect, his
passions for baseball, horse racing, painting and sculpting, and more than anything else, for his devotion
to his wife and his children and grandchildren, and to the thousands of patients whom he treated and cared
for during his long career.

Donald will be laid to rest at Beth Israel Cemetery in Iselin, NJ. Funeral services will be private per
family wishes. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
