Obituary of SHIRLEY SILBER
Loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Shirley Silber née Buckner died peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at her home in Metuchen, NJ. She was 93 years old. Born and raised in New Brunswick, NJ, Shirley was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Anna.
From the time she was young, Shirley was known for her contagious smile. She married her husband of 73 ½ years, Bernard (Bernie) Silber, and moved to Metuchen where the couple raised their family. Throughout her entire life, Shirley had countless friends and neighbors and was admired by all whose path crossed hers. She also had many hobbies. Including playing tennis, golf, and mahjong; painting, dancing, and gardening; and traveling to many parts of the world. She especially enjoyed beautiful Marco Island, FL, where she vacationed with Bernie over many winters. She also took pleasure in volunteering at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ, and was a devoted Rutgers sports fans. So much so, that at one time, Shirley served as the President of the Rutgers Fannies Club. However, nothing provided her more joy than spending time with her adoring family.
In addition to her husband, Shirley is survived by her devoted children, Leslie Ragucci and husband James, and Richard Silber and wife Mindy; loving grandchildren Lisa Ragucci and wife Nicole, Jamie Clark and husband Thomas, Jackie Coleman and husband Robert, and Allison Silber and fiance Casey Cantero; and cherished great-grandchildren Cameron, Caleb, Benjamin, and Logan. Shirley is predeceased by her older sisters whom she loved dearly, Annabelle Weissman and Evelyn Buckner.
