Doris Joy Feierman
February 11, 1924 — May 19, 2023

Doris Joy Feierman (Fox), 99, of Whippany, New Jersey, died on Friday, May 19, 2023, in the presence of her youngest grandchild, Lisa. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, raised her family in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and spent many of her best years in Boca Raton, Florida.

Doris came of age during the Great Depression. In 1940, at the age of 16, she began studying at Hunter College in Manhattan, where she saw Eleanor Roosevelt speak, one of her most cherished memories. That is when she began her “whirlwind courtship” with her late husband, Harry. They had 30 dates in 30 days while he was on leave from the Army during World War II.

When Harry returned from the war, the two married, moved to Allentown, and had two children, Arthur and Cathy. They went into business together, owning and operating Dorry Foods Inc. for 34 years.

In 1981, they relocated to the golf community of Boca Lago in Boca Raton, Florida, where they had a vibrant social life and had many regular card games. Doris especially loved bridge, which she played enthusiastically until macular degeneration prevented her from seeing the cards clearly.

Doris’s husband, Harry, died in 1999 at the age of 88, one month after their 53rd wedding anniversary. She remained in Florida until 2017, when she moved to South Orange, New Jersey, to be closer to family.

In addition to her husband, Doris was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in law, Donald and Norma Fox, and her beloved daughter, Cathy Silverman. She is survived by her son, Art (Lori) Feierman; five grandchildren, Jared (Paige) Silverman, Evan (Erin) Silverman, Lyle (Jordana) Silverman, Cara (Daniel) Marcoux, and Lisa (Daniel) Feierman; son-in-law, Lenny Dinnerstein; and 10 great-grandchildren, plus an 11th on the way.

A service will be held for Doris on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at Goldstein Funeral Chapel in Edison, New Jersey. Following the service, family and friends will gather for shiva at her grandson Jared’s home at 39 Brittany Road in Montville, New Jersey.

The family requests that any donations in Doris’s memory be made to the following causes that she supported: the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, Comfort Project 360 at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, and the National Council of Jewish Women (Essex County Section).

May her memory be for a blessing.
