Obituary of DANIEL ORENBERG
Successful entrepreneur Daniel Orenberg aka “Danny,” “DANO,” and “Poppy,” passed away on November 17, 2022 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey to Max Orenberg and Pauline Mezey Orenberg. He graduated from Irvington High School and for a short time attended college. He worked with his father Max at Max & Benny’s Kosher Butcher, which later was renamed Max & Danny. He left the butcher business for a less physically demanding profession due to his father’s failing health.
He owned Union Bar and Liquor in Long Branch, NJ and then Danny’s Bar in Edison, NJ. He conducted collection practice for the law firm Mezey & Mezey in New Brunswick, New Jersey and owned High Point County, golf course in located in Sussex County, NJ. Later, he started DANO Detective agency in Edison, NJ, where his magnetism attracted diverse people to come to him for advice and to play cards. He worked hard but loved his work. He used to say that you will never work a day in your life as long as you love what you do.
A natural athlete, he excelled in baseball, basketball, and football. In his later years, he satisfied his competitive streak by playing golf at Forsgate Country Club and Metuchen Country Club. Deep sea fishing remained a passion. Additionally, he was proud that he was a long-time Mason.
He is survived by his two children Sherri Orenberg-Ruggieri and Dr. Scott Orenberg, sister Dr. Sandra Orenberg Gold, partner Mary Jane Tierney, Daughter-in-law Christine Lazzeri Orenberg, Caregiver Kat Everette, Son-in-law Robert Ruggieri grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Marcia and parents Max and Pauline Orenberg.
