AMY P. ARTMAN Obituary

Amy Preminger Artman passed away suddenly and tragically on September 24th, she was 66 years old. Amy grew up in Englewood, New Jersey where she was the valedictorian of the Dwight Morrow High School class of 1973. She was a graduate of the University of Connecticut where she trained as a physical therapist, and she received a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Ira Artman of Metuchen, New Jersey, sons Daniel of Florham Park, New Jersey, and Josh of Boston, Massachusetts, sister Jill Preminger of San Diego, California and brother Glenn Preminger (Jodi) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Gloria Preminger, and her brother-in-law George Emont.

Amy had three careers — she began as a physical therapist in Boston and then worked in healthcare administration in New York and New Jersey. After her second son was born, she became a teaching aide in the Metuchen Public Schools. In retirement, Amy continued her volunteer work with the Metuchen Public Library and extended it to the Seasons Hospice in Edison, New Jersey.

Amy was a voracious reader, an early and avid podcast listener, and a skilled crossword puzzler. She loved the theater, dining out, travel, and Ira. She devoted time to her Congregation, Neve Shalom, where she organized the annual Book and Author event and served on the Adult Education Committee.

Amy was a wonderful wife and mother who faced life with a smile and a laugh. She took her learned experiences and offered her knowledge and compassion to others via active involvement in her community. She will be missed by many.

Funeral services will be at Congregation Neve Shalom, Metuchen, at 11:00 am on Thursday September 30th. Attendees should be vaccinated and masked.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Amy’s name can be directed to Congregation Neve Shalom of Metuchen, the Metuchen Public Library, or Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care of New Jersey.
