ROBERT FISHER

Obituary of ROBERT FISHER

Please share a memory of ROBERT to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert Fisher, 94, passed away peacefully on April 26. He lived an incredible life as a gifted artist and photographer, with much of his inspiration coming from the streets of Manhattan, the city he loved to call home. Bob was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. His legacy lives on through his art and his love for family. When we think of an artist, we think of our father, his ideas, his projects, and his views on creativity in a very changing world. Dad was a toy package designer for Ideal Toys and CBS Toys, but his true creative voice came out of his photographs. He would take his camera out for a walk in the city and then spend hours experimenting with the lights of the darkroom. He manipulated his images on a drafting table into a three-dimensional art form as a creative way to tell his stories. His ability to find humor and irony in his images was amazing, and he often managed to capture the human element of the city he knew so well. In 1983, he was honored with an exhibit of his work at the Soho Photo Gallery, a gallery in lower Manhattan that he helped build. In 2016, as a tribute for his 90th birthday, we held a retrospective of his life’s work at the same gallery he created, a place that provided a social environment where he and others could learn and be inspired. In lieu of flowers or platters of food, we have chosen a non-profit photography organization to give a donation in memory of Robert Fisher. “NYC Street Photography Collective” offers photographers of all ages a social environment where they can learn and grow as artists. He would have been very proud to see this medium continue to thrive. Here is the link to the NYC Street Photography Collective website. https://www.nyc-spc.com/
