Obituary of MARY ZIRLIN

Mary Zirlin, our beloved mother passed away on September 20, 2019. She was married to Leonard Zirlin for 63 years until his death in 2014. They had four sons, Larry, Harry, Martin, and Robert, who mourn for her.

Mary was born and educated in Newark, NJ, and lived there until 1965 when the family moved to Iselin, NJ, where she lived for the rest of her life. For many years she worked in supermarkets at the courtesy counter, which, because of ever-pleasant demeanor, was a job for which she was perfectly suited.

Her sons remember her in her youth as beautiful, smart, funny, strong-willed and selfless and she remained that way until the very end. Her first concern was always for others, not just her husband, whom she took care of in his difficult, declining years, or her sons, but also her siblings, aunts, nieces, cousins, sisters-in-law, friends, and neighbors. If anyone needed assistance--emotional, physical, financial--our mother was there for them

In her last days, she worried about becoming a burden to her sons, but of course, she never was. To us, she was as light as a mother’s goodnight kiss.
