Philip J. Caplan
Philip Caplan of Highland Park, New Jersey,
passed away Friday morning, November 11,
2016, following a prolonged illness.
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Mr. Caplan
moved to the New Jersey Shore Area in the 1950s.
A physicist, he was among the circle of scientists
and mathematicians who advanced communications
and technologies at Camp Evans and Fort Monmouth.
He authored numerous articles, and co-authored a
book, Spectroscopic Calculations for a Multi-Electron Ion.
Privately, he was a lifelong teacher and scholar of
Jewish topics, and published two books, including
The Puzzle of the 613 Commandments – and Why Bother?
Philip Caplan was widely beloved and respected.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Iola, his children,
Hannah (Harold), Benjamin (Orit), Joshua (Naomi),
and Jonathan (Lori); and many grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
