BURTON WEINBLATT Obituary

May 6, 1936 – April 14, 2026

Burton “Burt” P. Weinblatt, 89, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy as rich and full as the life he lived. Born on May 6, 1936, in Newark, New Jersey, Burt grew up in the city he loved, attending and graduating from Weequahic High School, where the friendships and memories he made would stay with him for a lifetime.

In 1962, Burt married the love of his life, Myra, who he met on a blind date, and together they built something truly beautiful — a home, a family, and a partnership that would span 63 remarkable years. They planted roots in Edison, New Jersey, where they raised their three children, Dena, Todd and Brett, and filled 38 years there with laughter, holidays, barbecues, neighborhood friendships, family gatherings and countless treasured memories. After the children were grown, they moved and made their new home in Somerset, New Jersey.

Burt spent his entire career as the owner and operator of MW and Abbay Exterminating Co., a business he ran with pride and dedication. More than just a livelihood, it became a place where he met countless friends and passed down his work ethic to his twin sons, Todd and Brett, who worked alongside their dad weekends and summers throughout their school years. Those early mornings and long days taught them far more than the trade — it taught them what it means to work hard and just as important, provided quality time to bond with their dad.

Away from work, Burt was the kind of dad who was simply there — always. He coached his sons in baseball, football, and basketball, never missing a practice or a game and opened up his home to host team dinners and gatherings. He could just as easily be found at Dena’s dance recitals or chauffeuring Dena and her friends to the mall on a Saturday, for their frequent shopping adventures. Along with Myra, the two never missed a school event or chance to be with their children.

As grandchildren came along, his enthusiasm only grew. Whether it was a Saturday morning game, a weekend tournament, or an event at one of the preschools, Burt was in the stands, cheering on his seven grandchildren with the same boundless energy he’d always had.

Few things brought Burt more joy than sharing the many holidays with his family, a nice car - and taking it to the car wash weekly, a delicious meal, and watching his favorite sports teams - the Jets and the Yankees. He enjoyed talking about his younger days — polishing his Catalina under the street lights with his friends, then racing down Route 22 with the windows down. That love of cars never left him. In later years, it wasn’t unusual to find Burt in the driveway at midnight with Todd and Brett, wax and polish in hand, doing what they’d always done together. He also held the unofficial title of New Jersey’s foremost diner authority — knowing the name, the menu, and likely the owner of nearly every diner in the state.

Burt is survived by his beloved wife, Myra; his children Dena, Todd, and Brett; his son-in-law Andy, daughters-in-law Dawn and Beth; and his grandchildren - Gabrielle and her husband Ethan, Jared, Jacob, Jonathon, Michael, Emily, and Zachary. He is also survived by his sister Sharon, his two sister-in-laws Toby and Sheila, his brother-in-law Craig and many nieces and nephews. He will most definitely be missed by the combined families’ six devoted fur babies.

Burt Weinblatt was a man who loved deeply, shared his sense of humor, showed up fully, and left everyone around him a little better for knowing him. He will be profoundly missed — and forever loved.
