On January 21, 2025, the heart of the purest, most loving and precious soul to grace this earth stopped beating. Wayne G. Swinsburg Jr. was a sweet, loving, innocent, caring, silly, smart, brave, funny, beautiful son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. Born in October of 1970, Wayne “G” was the son of the late Wayne Sr and his wife Nelly Swinsburg, and the only brother to Lucy “Cookie” Swinsburg. He was a special needs boy who doctors told the family to “put away” as they expected him to be mostly incapacitated all his life. His loving parents pushed back and devoted their lives to helping their son learn and grow to his fullest potential. When he aged out of special education, he attended day programs at NJID, but his family never stopped dedicating time at home helping him continue to learn and grow. He grew into an amazingly loving, funny, very lovable human being, as anyone lucky enough to meet him over the years could attest to. Wayne and his smile radiated joy – despite a body afflicted with cerebral palsy and severe scoliosis. He was the bravest boy we knew and rarely complained about anything. He loved cows, horses, trains, planes and country music. He loved singing and playing air guitar, building with Legos, and painting. He loved everything from Sesame Street and classic Disney movies to King Kong and Star Wars and he adored little orphan Annie. He enjoyed attending baseball games and watching football on TV (“they can’t hear you!”) His two favorite holidays were his own birthday and Christmas, and he completely believed in Santa Claus. He loved bagpipes on St. Patrick’s Day, 4th of July fireworks and the Thanksgiving Day parade. He always said “thank you” when coming home from a day out, whether it was just a ride to walk in the park, shop at Toys R Us (when it was the world’s biggest toy store), a live show or concert, or a trip to Texas. His favorite friend was the little girl he called “Baby”, because he knew her from before she was born and they shared special times eating pancakes, going to the movies or the zoo or just hanging out playing together. He loved telling jokes, “hiding” under the covers at naptime and helping his mommy do the dishes, doing anything with his daddy, attending church and saying his prayers at night with his mom. He would plant a kiss on your cheek just because; he had a sensitive, tender heart for those he loved. Mostly he loved his Mommy, Daddy, big sister and for him there was no place like home. All this love from a boy the doctors said would do and be nothing.
He was predeceased by his dear Daddy, Wayne Sr., grandparents John and Hazel Swinsburg of PA and Roberto and Angelica Malaga of Lima, Peru, and aunts and uncles John “Jackie” Swinsburg, Bobby & Iva Jo Swinsburg, Rolan Swinsburg, Bruce Swinsburg, Elsa Malaga, Nidia & Jorge Jimenez, Norka Luna, Pepe Quinones, Trani Malaga, and Rolando Malaga.
He is survived by his devoted and cherished mother, Nelly, sister Lucy “Cookie” Swinsburg and her fiancé Tim Gillis of Woodbridge, aunts and uncles Violet Swinsburg of FL, Mary Malaga Quinones of FL, Susan Swinsburg of NJ, Judith and Jorge Peñaranda, Roberto Malaga, Otto Luna and Ruby Malaga of Lima, Peru and many much-loved cousins in the US and Lima, as well as the Livias-Archeval family of Carteret.
A funeral mass will be held 9:30AM October 11, 2025 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Edison, followed by internment with his dear father at Elmwood Cemetery, North Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Tunnel to Towers, or your local first-responders organization. If he could leave one message, he’d probably say “Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow, you’re only a day away.”
