Dave Distel, 87, of Springfield, NJ, passed away on April 17, 2025 at The Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains.

Graveside service and burial will be held at Washington Cemetery in Deans, NJ on April 22nd at 11:00 AM via  Goldstein Funeral Chapel with Rabbi Daniel Cohen of Temple Sharey Tefilo Israel officiating. Prior to TSTI, Caryl and Dave were longtime active members of Congregation B’nai Tikvah in North Brunswick.

Dave was born in Newark, NJ to William and Naomi Distel on January 13, 1938. He was raised in North Arlington. Dave attended Arts High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Rutgers University, both in Newark. He had a successful career as a Controller in Accounting for companies in NYC and NJ and later was energized by substitute teaching in the North Brunswick and Springfield schools. He was intelligent, creative, and kind; a patron of the arts and artist, an avid reader, and a devoted family man.

Dave is survived by his wife of 65 years, Caryl Distel and by his daughter Nancy Distel and son-in-law Bennett Lieber of Maplewood, NJ. He is predeceased by his son Steven Distel and survived by his daughter-in-law Alyson Distel of Jupiter, FL. Dave is predeceased by his brother Barry Distel and survived by his sister Edie and her husband Mike Nussman. He is survived by his grandchildren Craig and wife Valerie Distel and great grandson Alec, Brad Distel, and Avery and Nicole Lieber and by five nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to: Temple Sharey Tefilo Israel (TSTI) in South Orange, the Visual Arts Center of NJ in Summit, or the ACLU.
