Obituary of MURRAY WOLF
Murray Wolf March 10, 1928 – May 5, 2019
Murray was born in Borough Park Brooklyn on March 10, 1928 to immigrant parents Pauline and Abraham Wolf. He was the youngest of three children. His brother Irving and sister Frances pre-deceased him.
Murray proudly served in the Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.
After the military he Graduated from LIU with a degree in Accounting and then went to Law school for a year. He left law school to raise his family.
Murray was married to his wife Ethyl, affectionately known as Ettie for 49 years. Ettie pre deceased him.. Murray was devoted father to Mitchell Wolf, Andrew Wolf, Janet Geida, Eileen Marks, and (pre-deceased) David Kantor. Murray is survived by his four surviving children and their spouses Harriette Wolf, Laura Wolf, Ronald Geida , Ira Marks and David’s widow Eileen Kantor; 11 Grandchildren, Sheryl Ackley, Alyssa Polhemus, Joseph Wolf, Daniel Wolf , Michelle Wolf, Nathaniel Wolf, Jessica Geida, Danielle Geida, Samantha Geida, Shari Kantor and Julie Kantor; and 9 great grandchildren, Stanford Hirsh Ackley, Abner Kirk Ackley, Aveline Ettie Ackley, Blake Hayden Polhemus, Paige Rose Polhemus, Piper Emily Polhemus, David Kantor, Alex Kantor, Arabella Lillian Wolf and 1 great grandchild, Penelope Wolf due in early July 2019.
He had a long and successful career as a Public Accountant, first with his brother Irving’s CPA firm and later as an officer in the family founded business.
Murray and Ettie spent several successful years as managers and eventually owners of the family Hotel Gradus in Kiamesha Lake NY, the “Jewish Alps.” Murray especially enjoyed bringing the old time Yiddish performers to appear at the hotel. Among them renowned Klezmer band leader Dave Tarras and Jewish Theatre performer Fyvush Finkel who he knew from his teenage years working in Catskills.
Ettie and Murray shared a wonderful life together. After retiring they spent more than 20 years living a peaceful happy life in Southern Florida.
Murray was known to all for his sense of humor and his ability to have the appropriate corny old joke ready for any situation that warranted it. He was also known by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren for telling and retelling old stories and his wide array of silly songs and games. They all laughed at his jokes no matter how many times he retold them.
Murray’s Funeral will be in New Jersey at 10 am Tuesday morning. May 7, 2019 at Goldstein Funeral Chapel. 2015 Woodbridge Ave., Edison, NJ.
There will be a second funeral service and burial at The South Florida National Cemetery located at 6501 S. State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL. Later on Thursday May 9, 2019 at 12:45 PM.
